The majority of research in the EEG neurofeedback (NF) area is formed by experimental studies. The subjective experience of playing the NF game is a marginal topic.
Our three studies (in total 54 NF sessions with 17 subjects) were therefore designed to take a look at diverse subjective experiences with the NF games. Post-session interviews targeted the contents of players' minds while playing NF games, the experienced relationship of the player and the games, or the distinct strategies employed to play.
Those interview pieces referring directly to a specific act performed in order to get control over the game were subjected to thematic analysis. Similar motives were grouped under common high order terms - these themes provide us with a map of distinct NF game strategies and techniques.
