Abstrakt
In my PhD project, I'm examining literary representations of geographical space as an instance of a real-and-imagined space (Soja, 1996). This spatial status is based on the fact that a narrated space is both referential and fictional.
In particular, I'm interested in the representations od Eastern Europe in modern Dutch literature. For this purpose I'm using Czech, Slovak and former Yugoslav regions as a case study. "Eastern Europe" is admitedly not a consistent term and in some cases even regarded as controversial and thus oftentimes substituted by "Eastern Central Europe".
I'm using this term as I'm seeking to prove that in Dutch modern fiction, as well as litery non-fiction these countries are in most cases represented in the same fashion, notwithstanding the nuances and could be therefore regarded as the Other inside the European continent. As my research is in the beginning phase, my poster is displaying best practices of digital methods for the research of spatial aspects of literature from other projects.
These methods and results are to be used in my own ongoing project.
