About legend of range-classified scales in thematic maps

Abstract

The article presents a practical approach to the production of the graphic form of legend using range-classified (interval) scales for thematic maps. Creating a legend is put in the context of data processing in thematic map production.

Focus is put on the differences in the design of legends for continuous and discrete phenomena and the explanation of general principles for forming the legend in a correct way. These approaches are illustrated with number of examples from different geographical disciplines and complemented by other practical insights.
