Abstrakt
The paper presents the results of recent excavations of the churches in Žabonosy, Tismice and Český Brod (Kolín District, Central Bohemia). These results shed new light on the dating and construction history of all churches and contribute to the knowledge of church organization in the region.
The excavation by the Church of St. Wenceslas in Žabonosy has unearthed two Pre-Romanesque building phases (single-nave church, triple-nave basilica) of the later church from the 12th century, the layout of which has been preserved to the present.
Traditionally, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Tismice has been regarded as an original monument of the Romanesque period, founded in the mid-12th century. Already during the High Middle Ages, static problems necessitated various repairs and renovations, including the rebuilding of the southern wall, still retaining the original Romanesque design.
The Church of St. Gotthard is located at the town square of Český Brod.
Parts of Romanesque masonry have been documented in its northwestern corner and archive documentation has proved that the church was originally a triple-nave basilica.
