Abstract

This contribution involves a study of the tax register for the town of Rakovník from the years 1436-1449 [1450] and its informational value for learning about life in a medieval town. It presents a brief summary of the historical context for the register's creation and its typological classification in relation to the town's other financial books.

Based on an analysis of the book's contents, the author looks at municipal financial administration in the Late Middle Ages, the status of the town within the context of regional administration, and its relationship to the king and the local lord. She further studies the manner in which the register captures the topography of the city, its economic and social structure, and other aspects of life in the post-Hussite era.
