Swines' food, Divine food and gift: Some considerations on cultural transfers at the margins of he Atlantic area

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2019

Abstract

The article reflects the problem of indirect cultural transfers in the Atlantic area in the Early Modern Era, especially with respect to the transfers in the area of material culture (culinary practices) and their broader consequences. As a case study it uses the introduction of potatoes into the Czech Lands in the 18th century.

At the same time, the text tests the possibility of using the concepts orginally designed for the study of cultural transfers in non-European regions (transculturation, contact zone, creolization).
