A Hands-On Set for Understanding DNA Replication, Transcription & Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2020

Abstract

As molecular biology topics are very abstract and hard to imagine, pupils have many misconceptions regarding genetics and molecular biology. We describe how to make a cheap and easy to manufacture educational Hands-on-Set that is intended for closer examination of DNA replication, transcription, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and random origin of mutations.

During work with the set, students will become DNA or RNA polymerases and they will literally touch the DNA or RNA molecules. The set has been successfully used and it provides space for modifications to fit individual teacher's needs.
