The author Eva Novotná remembered the 400th anniversary of the 3rd map of the Kingdom of Bohemia by Pavel Aretin of Ehrenfeld in her lecture Aretin's map of the Kingdom of Bohemia from 1619. The contribution showed the life and the work of the supposed author and publisher of the map.
It analysed cartographic historic work New and exact description of the Kingdom of Bohemia. It compared differences of four editions of the map.
It also described the pictorial decoration of the map. It explained the role of Prague Wussin printmakers and publishers in the publication of the map of Bohemia.
In conclusion it evaluated the importance and role of the map. Miroslav Čábelka's contribution entitled Cartographic aspects of the Aretin's map of Bohemia dealt with the most noticeable changes in the topographic content of the 4 known editions of the Aretin's map of Bohemia (1619, 1632, 1665 and before 1747).
These adjustments were mainly in the projection of rivers in Eastern Bohemia and in the location and description of the settlements. Cartometric analyses are a significant means of obtaining knowledge about cartographic works.
The lecture evaluated current results of analyses of Arentin's map of Bohemia in comparison with analyses carried out by prof. Karel Kuchař.
The results of the analyses included displacement vectors of identical points, isolines of the scale and rotation and they were visualised using the MapAnalyst programme. Prof.
Karel Kuchař made the assumption that all four editions of Aretin's map of Bohemia had been engraved on the same copper plate. The author confirmed this claim on the basis of the results of cartometric analyses.
Eva Semotanová introduced a social science description of Bohemia in the lecture Landscape of Bohemia of Pavel Stránský of Záp according to Pavel Arentin. The work About the Republic of Bohemia was written by an exile Pavel Stránský of Záp in the 1st half of the 17th century as his memoir but also based on the map of Pavel Aretin of Ehrenfeld.
In her lecture she watched the extent to which the content of the Aretin's map (settlements, watercourses, administrative divisions, geographical names, etc.) reflected in Stránský's book. The period European social and cartographic context was also outlined.
The lecture by Josef Paták Long shadow of Aretin's map: The derivatives of the map of Bohemia by Pavel Aretin of Ehrenfeld in the fund of the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University introduced derivatives of the 3rd map of Bohemia. The most important cartographic work of Pavel Arentin of Ehrenfeld, which, after its publication in 1619, replaced the Criginger's map, the most accurate and up-to-date depiction of the Kingdom of Bohemia, and became a model for number of copies and derivatives for hundred years.
The contribution sought to throw light on not very explored problematics, based on the study of derivatives of Aretin's map stored in the fund of the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University. It compared available derivatives that had been created between 1619 and the beginning of the 18th century and it set out basic matches and differences between their different versions and variants.
