Biofeedback and its use in medical rehabilitation of human movement system

Abstract

Biofeedback is used to positively affect health through devices that sense and display the progress of various bodily functions, such as heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, regional blood flow, brain activity, or muscle tension. Our aim was to find available studies on the principles, applications and effects of application of methods based on the principle of biofeedback in the therapy of the musculoskeletal system.

Great attention is paid to electromyographic biofeedback of the lower and upper limbs. Frequent use of these methods in the treatment of walking and postural functions.

In these cases, other physical principles of scanned information are used. These include pressure biofeedback, plantography and vibrotactile biofeedback.

In addition to information on the effectiveness of the use of these methods, emphasis was placed on obtaining information as to whether the effect is immediate and to what extent it persists. The advantage may be the possibility of use in home treatment.

From this spectrum of studies it is possible to assess for which diagnoses and health problems of patients it is suitable to use
