Abstract

This article focuses on the teaching framework of the topic of human evolution in the Czech Republic. In total, we surveyed 217 biology teachers.

We used a paper questionnaire to collect the data. The results show that teachers are rather unsatisfied with the quality of contemporary textbook chapters focusing on human evolution.

As an additional source of information, the teachers most commonly use the internet and also notes from their university lectures. Teachers personal religious beliefs influence their approach to the topic only negligible.

We found only one significant difference in attitudes and knowledge of believers and non-believers among teachers - the non-believers agreed significantly more often with the statement that scientific and religious points of view are contradictory.
