Abstract

Prof. MUDr.

Vojtěch Suk was born on 18 September 1879 in Prague. He graduated first at the Faculty of Education and in 1922 at the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University.

He belonged to pupils of anthropologist prof. Jindřich Matiegka.

Before World War I he traveled around South Africa in the expedition dr. Aleš Hrdlička.

In the 1920s he worked as a doctor of Canadian Eskimos at Labrador. After his return he founded the Anthropological Institute of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

In 1932/33, as a professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Masaryk University in Brno, he was the Dean of the Faculty. In 1946-1948 he headed the Institute for the Education of Physical Education Professors.

In his scientific work he focused mainly on serological and hematological research of human breeds (Zulu in South Africa, Eskimos in North America).
