The use of advanced technologies for eye movement tracking and eye gaze direction in rehabilitation

Abstract

Vision is important for reception of information from environment. Properly functioning visual system helps to stabilise body posture, but also has a number of functions responsible for safe performance of basic movements.

The eye is never motionless, not even while fixating a target. Therefore, the eye movement can provide a lot of valuable information about the observed person.

There is a number of various methods and devices used for analysis of eye reactions on external stimuli which differ according to a studied task. In recent years, a significant progress has been made in their development resulting not only in advancement of technology but also in increase of their availability.

The aim of this study is to introduce the possibilities for eye movement tracking and eye gaze and its usage in rehabilitation as well as show that even seemingly unrelated diagnostic tools could be used in rehabilitation and contribute to improvements in patient care.
