Abstract

Saturnin, Zdeněk Jirotka's comic novel published in 1942, has been translated into eleven languages so far. There are two German translations, the older one by Norbert Chotaš (1959), and the younger one by Joachim Bruss (2007).

This paper summarises both the correspondence and the difference concerning one particular passage of the novel: the well-known "philippic against proverbs" containing 24 proverbs.
