Venous diseases and their complications are highly prevalent in the adult population (40-50%), with the prevalence of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) being 5-30%. The authors present current knowledge about vasculogenesis and genetic factors playing a role in the pathogenesis of chronic venous insufficiency, anatomy and pathophysiology of the lower limb circulation, treatment with emphasis on modern minimally invasive outpatient methods including endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, mechanochemical ablation, use of cyanoacrylate adhesive and ultrasonically controlled sclerosis foaming.
