Timbre hearing of preschool and younger school children in light of pedagogical research

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2019

Abstract

A pioneering publication in Czech music-educational literature pulls the timbre hearing out of the hearing for speech and puts it firmly in the complex of musical-hearing abilities. It introduces both older and current methods of timbre hearing testing and informs readers in detail about the results of timbre and phonematic hearing testing of preschool children.

This central theme is complemented by information from other areas: auditory attention, its stimulation and application, a case study of a child with a strong musical talent and a specific learning disability. A synthesis of knowledge and experience with the timbre hearing testing is applied in the design of timbre hearing tests for three age groups ranging from 5 to 15 years.

The book is concluded with chapters devoted to the possibilities of development of timbre hearing in both collective and individual musical activities in kindergartens, elementary and art schools.
