(Geo) Demographic Aspects of the take-up of Diabetological Outpatient Health Services in Czechia

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2019

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to give a basic overview of differences in the use of selected outpatient health services (diabetology) in Czechia by gender, age and residence of the patient. The paper uses anonymized individual data for insured persons from the biggest health insurance company from 2017, which also enable monitoring e.g. the difference between the patient's place of residence and the place where the health service was received.

At the district level (LAU1), there are significant regional differences in terms of healthcare services utilization in the region of residence, especially in those areas that could be perceived as mostly suburban or peripheral vs. districts with big cities. In districts with important municipalities (regional centres), the significant proportion of patients come from other regions and therefore it is necessary to count on higher numbers of physicians capacities to meet the demand for these services.
