This chapter is dedicated to the literary preferences of the Czech grammar school students, the analysis of the modern picture of reading, and the knowledge of Russian literature of Czech grammar school students. The chapter includes comments on the modern system of education and the position and history of grammar schools in the Czech Republic.
A survey conducted on 228 teenagers between 15-19 years showed that students of grammar schools prefer novels. They admit that there is a certain influence of school in making their choices, especially preparation for maturita exams, and the influence of phenomenal Harry Potter novels by J.K.
Rowling.
