Folklore texts for children in teaching Russian as a foreign language

Abstract

This chapter is dedicated to the opportunity of using children's folklore texts in teaching Russian as a foreign language. First of all, the very nature of folklore is explained, followed by the classification of folklore genres and specific aspects of children's folklore.

The chapter also includes the results of content analysis of the educational material for teaching Russian at Czech primary and secondary schools. The aim of the analysis was to discover which genres of children's folklore are included in the materials, and for what purpose.

The particular possibilities of using children's folklore as a mean of creating intercultural communicative competence are stated at the very end of the chapter.
