Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Use of Video Capsule Endoscopy published by the Czech Society of Gastroenterology were developed as a consensus of the team of authors based on scientific data currently available. The text supersedes earlier, previously published guidelines and reflects current guidelines of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE).
Capsule endoscopy becomes a standard part of diagnostic algorithms for small bowel and potentially also for some colon diseases. The availability of the method is sufficient in the Czech Republic, but its high price remains the main limiting factor.
The objective of the guidelines is the rational use of capsule endoscopy in routine clinical practice, enabling effective diagnosis and treatment of some serious digestive tract diseases.
