Early and long-term restraining of dyslipidaemia and hypertension - how to be a person with risks, not a "patient" during your life

Abstract

The main goal of controlling the risk factors for atherosclerosis is to prolong and improve life by preventing cardiovascular events. The main steps to achieve this are regimen measures and pharmacotherapy.

The main goals of the intervention are smoking, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and hypertension. At present, the treatment of the atherosclerotic process, and especially its prevention, is very intensively discussed by starting pharmacological treatment with smaller doses of drugs even at slightly higher values of cholesterol and blood pressure, especially in the adult population.

The goal should be a slight but long-term reduction in LDL-cholesterol, blood pressure, or glycemia, and thus a significant reduction in exposure to these risk factors. If this goal can be achieved in the field of primary care, it could have a significant clinical effect in a large number of at-risk individuals with a lower incidence of side effects.

Due to the fact that such focused studies are very difficult to perform, we have only indirect data. It is essential to obtain a permanent cooperation of the treated persons - both by informing them about the true nature of the therapy, and by reducing the number of tablets used, for example by using combined products.
