Omnia bona reddere Deo : The Concept of work between the Benedictine and Franciscan Tradition

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2019

Abstract

The article deals with the role of traditional monastic commitment to physical work within the Benedictine and Franciscan tradition in its beginnings in the 13th century. It tries to describe what goals the work in both concepts should achieve.

On the basis of comparison, it represents different ideological foundations of work practice between the two traditions, which in the case of the Order of Friars Minor fundamentally influenced the form of activity within society. For the Franciscans work has primarily become a service, namely not only to the community itself, but also to the surrounding society.
