The paper deals with the progressive adoption of semantic anglicisms. A number of studies have been conducted on semantic anglicisms, mostly with Canadian French.

Our paper intends to complete the research by an analysis with European French. The aim of the study is twofold.

In the first part we compare different conceptions of the term néofrançais and we analyse the current theoretical reflection of semantic borrowings in néofrançais. The second part presents a case study of two semantic anglicisms, 'réaliser' and 'assumer', conducted on a web corpus Araneum Francogallicum Maius.

Its results show that, despite the fact that the two verbs can be used in the English meaning, and that this use even creates new syntactic structures, the original meaning is still prevailing in European French.
