"Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek" in Early Modern Catholic Exegesis

Abstract

The study examines the approach of four exegetes (Antonio Agelli, Robert Bellarmine, Cornelius and Lapide, Thomas Le Blanc) to the motif of the Melchizedechian Priesthood in Psalm 110 and compares their attitudes to rabbinic and Protestant interpretations.
