Abstract
The term "European Muslims" today sounds like a new, unexpected and contradictory phenomenon. It mostly refers to the descendants of former Gastarbeiter who have since claimed their Islamic identity or perhaps the Muslim Andalusia (711-1492) and Sicily (948-1091).
Yet there are some 7,5 million autochtonous European Muslims in the Balkans.
