Abstract

The main aim of this research was to create a comprehensive overview of the opportunities to study piano accompaniment in the countries of Central Europe, which is the Czech Republic, Lichtenstein, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland. For this purpose, curricula from universities focusing on performing arts were gathered and in them study programmes, in which piano is not taught only as a solo instrument, were targeted.

In regards to the range of this research, only master's study programmes were analysed. By the analysis and comparison of the data these basic types of "piano cooperation" were established: Chamber music (Chamber music, Kammermusik), Accompaniment of songs and oratorios (Vokalkorrepetition Lied und Oratorium, Liedgestaltung, Liedduo), Coaching opera singers (Coaching Opera Singers, Chef de chant, Vokalbegleitung), Accompaniment of instrumentalists (Accompaniment of Instrumentalists, Instrumentalkorrepetition, Klavierkammermusik) and other categories of mixed or atypical study programmes (Accompagnement, Klavierkammermusik und Liedgestaltung, Orchesterklavier, Klavierduo).

The result of this induction was the completion of a universal curriculum for studying piano accompaniment, from which it is fairly obvious that every pianist who wants to engage in piano accompaniment must, apart from mastering their own instrument, be educated in other specific subjects, which are absolutely essential for becoming a successful piano accompanist.
