Experiential pedagogy in the Czech Republic

Abstract

Specific historical conditions and various political arrangements in the central European country Czech Republic led to a distinctive version of experiential education (zážitková pedagogika) developed from movement recreation (turistika , scouting movement and Jaroslav Foglar, woodcraft, and tramping) through educational dimension of outdoor recreation (camping schools, experimental projects) to experiential education (intensive recreational regimes, Vacation School of Lipnice) and holistic education with method of dramaturgy as the unique contribution to international community. The chapter starts with defining the field of experiential education, briefly discuss its roots and development in the Czech Republic and finish the contemporary state of the field.
