Abstrakt
While not specifically about food, Virgnie Despentes' trilogy Vernon Subutex still provides the reader with a true "sociology of food", as it is lived and thought of in contemporary France. Every major shift that sociology or food study have documented in the last twenty years are inscribed and strongly discussed in the novels.
The way Despentes endeavours to "map out society" shows also for food, gastronomy, and eating habits. This paper identifies the main problems linkd to food : bad food and nibbles, obesity and eating disorders, animals, eating unease and many others.
