The author will deal with the goals to which the teaching of mathematics should be directed according to curricular documents valid in the Czech Republic. The form of teaching mathematics according to these documents and the reality we encounter in schools.
It will try to indicate ways that could change this state. In this context, it will attempt to present some of the approaches that form part of a method sometimes called "Singapore mathematics" and to consider the extent to which these methods are applicable in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
The lecture will be accompanied by demonstrations and activities for students.
