Abstract

The article focuses on the lesser-known part of work, dealing with the "troubadour" poetry of Sayat Nova, a "bard" or poet-singer of Armenian origin, living in 18th century Tbilisi. The name of Sayat Nova is famous through all regions of Caucasus because of his love poetry, whose verses are characteristic for the culture of ashigs (today a part of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage).

Sayat Nova used to be a court poet in the court of Georgian king Erekle/Irakli II. and his work reflects - regardless poetic topoi - some events from Georgian contemporary history.
