Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Pancreas Complicated with Left-Sided Portal Hypertension-a Case Report and Literature Review

Background: Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the pancreas is a very rare disease, reporting in the worldwide literature in about 50 cases since 1947, when the first case was described. It occurs mostly as a secondary pancreatic involvement by a multiple myeloma, the primary and solitary plasmacytoma of the pancreatic tissue is a rarity worldwide.

Objective: We would like to report a case of a patient with a primary plasmacytoma of the pancreas, complicated by a severe left-sided portal hypertension with a fatal repeated bleeding from the oesophageal varices. Methods: A case report of a 52-year-old woman with an atypical large pancreatic tumor and an atypical result in the three times repeates fine needle aspiration biopsy.

Conclusion: We present to our best knowledge the first case of a plasmacytoma of the pancreas in Czech Republic.
