With science, including some basic physical knowledge, children meet already in primary school. Young pupils are very inquiring, they are still interested in how things work and they like to do experiments.
Thus it is important to gain their interest and to motivate them to future studies. We should lead pupils to notice things and phenomena around them, learn to observe them, describe them, ask questions that concern them.
Primary school teachers should therefore be able to integrate experiments into the lessons, discuss them with children, and provide explanations appropriate to their age. In the contributionis presented both experience from experimentally focused seminars for primary school teachers and also examples of experiments and their inclusion in lessons.
