The tradition of "third-age universities" has existed in the Czech Republic for more than thirty years. This tradition of educating older people corresponds to the situation in Europe, where the first "university of the third age" arose in the 70s of the XX century.

At the Faculty of Education of Charles University, in accordance with the large compared to the number of specialties provided and in connection with the scientific and pedagogical potential of individual departments, the number of courses offered for older people is also increasing. Among these courses, there are completely new ones that have just been opened, but there are also courses lasting more than three years.

We give examples of two "long-term courses" in chemistry and music. Both courses use attractive forms of learning for older people, proceed from the best educational traditions and still adhere to the current Comenius principles: visibility, consistency, participation of as many meanings as possible.

In accordance with modern pedagogical trends, training here is carried out with the help of personal experience and taking into account intersectoral relations.
