Africa, the Middle East, and South Asian countries have been attracting the lowest number of tourists in recent decades and consequently, have the lowest share from the tourism industry. In this research paper, we investigated whether the aforementioned regions' poor performance in the tourism industry is due to growing terrorism in the region.

Our results indicate that terrorism plays a deterrent role in the tourist's decision-making process for traveling to those countries. By using both the cross-sectional augmented distributed lag (CS-DL) and the cross-sectional ARDL (CS-ARDL) estimators, we found that there is a significant negative impact of terrorism on tourism.
