Interpretation of the different Cyril and Methodius tradition created by the Czech and Bulgarian elites in the 19th century. The elites of both companies promoted St.
Cyril and Methodius as a symbol of their national-political emancipation efforts, but they subscribed to their various legacy. In the Czech conception, both saints became a symbol of Christianization in Slavic language and a symbol of Slavic "reciprocity", in the concept of Bulgarian scholars, who laid the foundations of Bulgarian literature and Bulgarian education. (?)Their response was not identical - the plurality of opinion of the Czech society was against the united attitude of the Bulgarian society.
The character of the newly constructed Cyril and Methodius feasts (church x secular), the way of celebration in public space, and the target group primarily addressed by the Cyril and Methodius celebration were also different. This autonomy precluded the intersection of both traditions.
