Publication |
2019

Abstract

About 4% of patients with diabetes mellitus is aected by diabetic foot syndrome, the most common cause of hospitalization of diabetic patients (reported up to ca 50%). Approximately about 70% of nontraumatic lower leg amputations are performed in diabetes.

About 85% of the foot lesions are potentially treatable. A modern multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome coupled with consistent prevention and education has potential to reduce amputation rates by 70%.
