Abstract

A review of the book by Ctirad Václav Pospíšil, who tried to shed light on the attitudes of the Catholic Church towards the hypotheses of human evolution in the years 1871-1910. Compared to previous researchers, Pospíšil managed to outline an overall view of the phenomenon of evolutionary hypothesis reception, to avoid traditional clichés and to purify the reputation of some protagonists.
