"The picture is messy, but story..." Spirituality and Social Exclusion

Publication |
2019

Abstract

The aim of this literature review is to answer the question: How is spirituality described in contemporary relevant literature as a factor of social exclusion / inclusion? Based on published quantitative and qualitative studies, as well as theoretically aimed texts, the article presents an overview of various concepts of spirituality as factor of social inclusion. The relationship of both can be divided into three general groups: 1) the influence of spirituality on social exclusion / inclusion (hereinafter also as SE/I) on an individual level, 2) the influence of spirituality on SE/I within activism and 3) the influence of SE/I on spirituality on an individual level.

Moreover, the effects seem to vary depending on whether spirituality manifests itself in positive or negative spiritual coping.
