Abstract

Critical edition of the book called Present Day Mexico: Gleanings of two years' travel and study from Río Grande to Yucatán, written by Czech Orientalist living in the USA, Alois Richard Nykl (1885-1958). the author was comparing Mexico under the rule of Porfirio Díaz, which he experienced during his stay in 1907-1909, with the according to him lamentable condition of contemporary post-revolutionary Mexico he witnessed during his visits between 1924 and 1926. Written in 1926-27, the book remained unpublished.

Three consecutive versions of the manuscript were preserved in the archive of the Náprstek Museum.
