Very little research has been done in the area of pupils' perception of their understanding and in tutoring in the Czech Republic, so this paper describes one of prime attempts to find any connections between them. In a sample of 142 lower secondary pupils, distinctive attitudes were sought towards their desired understanding in mathematics and towards their attendance on tutoring lessons in mathematics.
The results show there might not be much connection between these two areas, therefore, reasons are discussed and questions for further research are stated.
