The aim of this paper is to present a study embedded in the area of mourning in people with intellectual disabilities. The aim of this study is to test in the Czech Republic foreign manual of grief support groups for mourning people with intellectual disabilities and to assess the influence of participation in the support group on the mourning process of the involved participants.
Support group project consists of 7 meetings composed of theoretical and practical activities that aim to support the grieving process in individuals. In 2018, a pilot study was be carried out to test the proposed support group project and formulate recommendations for following year of the project implementation, in which a definitive form of grief support groups will be proposed and its impact on the mourning process of involved persons will be tested.
In 2019, approximately 3-5 support groups will be assembled and implemented, about 4-6 people with intellectual disabilities who have lost their parents in their lives will be selected to participate in each group. The project is handled from November 2017 to March 2020 and its results will significantly contribute to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities in Czech Republic., because it will give to professionals and public new insights into field of mourning in people with intellectual disabilities.
