Publication at Faculty of Education |
2019

Abstract

The speech and language therapy intervention has recently been more and more concentrated on neurogenic communication disorders of the adults and the elderly. These disorders include deficits based on language disorders, motor speech disorders, impairments of primary functions of the orofacial tract and also cognitive-communication disorders.

All of these impairments, often connected with severe limitations of physical abilities, considerably reduce the possibilities of social inclusion of the people. The objective of this article is to offer a brief introduction to the issues of speech and language therapy intervention for people with swallowing disorders at post-acute care and to point out, by means of a case study of a senior with dysphagia, main difficulties that the speech and language therapists and their patients at post-acute care face.
