Abstract

Scientific language is unable to exhaust the essence of human beings, especially human personhood. On the contrary, any scientific or even philoso-phical definition ultimately represents a reduction of the human personality.

On the one hand the development of science, technology, and progress offers the promise of a better tomorrow. But on the other hand, this promise may become a nightmare for mankind because scientific thought has been and can be exploited against him.

The article is based on the ideas of certain Orthodox thinkers whose paradigm does not reduce human personality. They also emphasize the obstacles which are often able to deny the freedom of human beings, and they note the negative consequences of such a denial while trying to articulate what the essence of a person really is.
