We introduce findings from quantitative data analysis (data stem from recent public opinion survey by CVVM, 2019) regarding empirical police legitimacy, its sources and correlates. Compared to older works, we used a new three-dimensional operationalization of legitimacy, inspired by a more general concept of institutional legitimacy.
It is based on the assumption of three independent sources of institutional empirical legitimacy: normative, instrumental and also cognitive ones. We verify relevance of these types in Czech society, not only in relation to perceived police legitimacy but also to its consequences.
