Abstract
In the introduction to his lectures about the philosophy of art, Hegel put forward especially the question whether the philosophy of art might not be as a science. In the context of this question, he analyzed objections against the concept of the philosophy of art as a science and criticized two contradictory ways of treating art.
The author's intention in the article is to analyze Hegel's discussion of these two thematic areas. Hegel's critique and his own concept emanate partly from his concept of spirit and partly from his conception of a philosophical system, and it is on the analysis of these that the article is primarily focused.
At the same time, it shows what Hegel understands by science and in what the meaning of the conception of the philosophy of art as a science consists.
