In the paper, I examine the construction of the image of the Jew and Judaism in the works of fourteenth-century Bohemian reformers, most notably Matthias (Matěj) of Janov (d. 1393). The idea of "oldness" and renewal played a crucial role in the theological debates taking place in Prague in the second half of the fourteenth century, especially concerning ecclesiology and sacramental theology.

I will explore the impact of these debates on the perception of Jewishness and discuss whether they reflect any awareness of contemporary Jewish religious thought and practice.
