In the catalogue describes the marine and brackish ichthyofauna of the Aniva Bay (southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk, southern part of the Sakhalin Island) for the last 200 years, including 274 valid species in 3 classes, 22 orders, 67 families and 161 genera. Discusses a number of so-called "controversial" taxa and volume synonyms for each single species.

Specified and accepted modern achievements of systematics over the last few decades, are accepted. For a number of species provides information about collectible specimens, confirming their presence within the study area.

For each species, Latin and English names, taxonomic notes, information on lifestyle, distribution, nature conservation status, ecology, abundance and commercial fishing, are given. Provides a complete system of classification of higher taxa and species, according to accepted international achievements, is given.

Contains information about the history of the study of ichthyofauna of the Aniva Bay and its overall taxonomic review, physical-geographic characteristics of the bay, as well as information on the commercial fishery and conservation status, are given. Addressed to a wide range of specialists and nature lovers, biologist-systematists, ichthyologists, ecologists, specialists in the field of conservation of biological diversity and fisheries, biogeographers, employees of higher educational institutions of biological direction, museum workers, as well as students of specialized departments and institutes.
