The present paper introduces the so far little-explored (especially in Italian) phenomenon of monocollocability and analyses it in two typologically and genetically different languages: Italian and Czech. A sample of Italian and Czech monocollocable words extracted from corpora and the fixed combinations in which they occur are investigated from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives.

Attention is paid especially to the typological differences between the two languages.
