Abstract

The article deals with a comprehensive set of hydrobiological characteristics of the Štěpánovský potok Brook (length of 16.2 km, average flow 0.32 m3.s-1, a tributary of the Sázava River, Elbe River Basin, Central Bohemia, the Czech Republic). In the paper are presented ichthyological data gathered during electrofishing (own results) and studying diet of the common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) by ČECH & ČECH (2004, 2006, 2011, 2017).

In addition to fish fauna composition, data on microphytobenthos, zoobenthos and long-termed water quality as well as average saprobity index of benthic community are also given there. The role of the brook as a fish refuge during floods is also mentioned.

The results show the high quality of the environment, allowing a long-term occurrence of the legally protected brook lamprey (Lampetra planeri) there.
