The Center of the Horákov and Platěnice Group in Moravia - Elites and social model

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2020

Abstract

The chapter deals with the highest social stratum of the Hallstatt Period - the elites. It is based on the recently proposed three-stage model, derived on the basis of comprehensive monitoring of the elites of the Platěnice and Horákov groups and the Late Hallstatt Period.

Based on the collection of movable and immovable sources and their statistical evaluation, it then determines the hierarchical division of society. Emphasis is placed on the Prostějov region, where the authors see the center of the Platěnice group of the East Hallstatt culture.

The sites, especially the rich graves, have become new sources that move our knowledge significantly forward. The basic building block of research into the social model of society is thus the grave as a reflection of the social status of the individual.

The most important source is the chamber graves, which belong to the magnate and middle classes and are large sets of immovable, movable and scientific (if ascertained) information about the people of the Hallstatt Period.
