Abstract
Introduction to the publication Překlady pro EU (Translating for the EU) - The publication is tied together by one overarching theme, which is Institutional Translation in relation to one specific type of institution. It exploits translations performed by and within EU institutions themselves, EU translations from the point of view of national legislative bodies, translations produced by national LSPs (be it agencies or individual translators, i.e., contractors that are external to the institutions), as well as EU translations as a product, which, eventually, is applied in legal practice (legislative texts) or by a wider user spectrum (both legislative and non-legislative texts).
The publication brings together a varied group of contributors, including (in order of appearance) Czech Government Office representatives, a Head of Department / EU officer, a high representative of the largest Czech association of professional translators, a Head of Department at a large LSP, law and Translation Studies academics, as well as translation professionals.
